Recently I’ve had the chance to take an online apologetics course, and I’m learning so much. I’d never taken one of these classes before, but I’m glad I am now. Raising children in a time where “unbelief is popular”(to quote the course) is daunting. Being able to explain the reasons behind what I believe will help me give my children a solid foundation.
The course I’m taking is called Unbreakable Faith through Pilgrim’s Rock, taught by Pastor Craig Biehl. I’m taking the individual/family course, but they also have courses for homeschools, homeschool co-ops, and church ministries. It can be taken for credit; a great option for homeschoolers with teenagers! I’ve taken about 10 modules so far, and there have been so many ideas that jump out at me and really make me think.
I originally thought that apologetics meant stocking up on bunches of scientific facts that backed God’s existence (they’re out there!) Instead what I’ve learned so far is really logical ideas that make the argument that God doesn’t exist non-sensical. An idea that keeps rolling around in my mind is that if the world was created accidentally by an explosion, ordered things like science and reasoning don’t make sense.
I also had a chance to read a book by Craig Biehl, called The Box. The book is based around the idea that limited beings can’t conclude God doesn’t exist. It is written as a conversation between a believer and atheist, and really challenged my thinking.
Who Is It For?
My children won’t be ready for this course for a long time, but as a parent, I’ve learned valuable concepts that will shape how I teach them. If your kids are little like mine, taking this class now will help you confidently teach them about God. While this course is great for homeschooled teenagers, it would be really beneficial for teenagers in public schools to learn how to talk about their faith with their peers.
Right now, I am excited to offer a discount for this course. Use the code MYLITTLEROBINS to receive the course for $67, plus get the books The Box and God the Reason for free!
