At the end of August every year, I pull out all of our fall books and display them for my little ones to see. So many fall books are gorgeous and make cozy additions to the autumn leaves and pumpkins that we place on the mantel every year. We've settled on some of our favorites over the years, and we've added many to our home library. I've made a round-up of some of our favorite fall books so you can enjoy them, too!
I've used my Amazon Affiliate store to share these amazing books with you! You can read more about affiliate links in my policies.
Fall Books for the Early Years
You can visit the entire list in my Amazon Store, but I've written about some of our favorites here.
Hello, Harvest Moon by Ralph Fletcher
The author of this book, Ralph Fletcher, actually makes writing curriculum for children, so you know it has to be well-written! I always read this to my class every fall and we talked about all of the creative descriptions used to describe the night when a harvest moon lights up the sky.
The Very Best Pumpkin by Mark Kimball Moulton
A little boy grows a pumpkin, but decides not to keep the very best one for himself. I love this sweet story that inspires little ones to put others first.
Bat Loves the Night by Nicola Davies
Maybe this isn't technically a fall book, but bats always make me think of Halloween! I used this book as a public school teacher to teach writing, because it's just so well done. There is factual text and literary text in this one beautiful book. Sometimes I just skip the expository text and go straight for the narrative because it's just so enjoyable!
Woody, Hazel, and Little Pip by Elsa Beskow
We are a little obsessed with Elsa Beskow over here, (see this Instagram post!) and this book is no exception! It's a sweet story of little acorn and hazlenut children who get lost on a blustery, fall day. We read this one on repeat during the fall! I think The Children of the Forest also makes a great fall book, but it technically takes place throughout the year.
Brambly Hedge, An Autumn Story
I don't think this is the first book roundup that Brambly Hedge has made its way onto! These books are so great for little ones, and the pictures alone could keep us happy all day...sigh. We own the complete collection, so we read about the little critters of Brambly Hedge in all seasons!
I hope you enjoy these books as much as we do! If you're looking for more cozy read-alouds, check out my woodland animals read-aloud round-up!
